Namibia: Country Background

Namibia Map 2
Home to approxmiately 2 million people, the Republic of Namibia is located in southern Africa. Despite its relatively small population, the adult HIV prevalence is estimated to be 15.3%. In 2003, the Government of Namibia began providing free ART, an initiative that was further accelerated thanks to partnerships with PEPFAR, the Global Fund and other partners in 2004.  As of September 2008, more than 56,000 individuals were receiving ART.
